So a month came and went with no posts. I sat down in front of the computer one day and all of a sudden, I FORGOT HOW TO BLOG. No I swear. Too much time had passed and I felt like it would have to be this super dramatic explanation as to why I had disappeared for so long.
I pondered a few scenarios that would be interesting: I met this fantastically hot lawyer, fell madly in love and eloped in Ireland planning never to return to the States again; I won the lottery and have been spending all of my time shopping for new shoes and handbags and with all the guys who now want me for my money, I have a date every night; or my friends set me up to be on the next episode of the Bachelorette and I've been spending all of my time writing lists of the qualities I want in a man so FOX knows what 25 guys to pick for me.
The truth? LIFE. Simple as that.
While I wish I had won the lottery, met the man of my dreams, or something equally exciting, nothing of the sort has happened. My social calendar definitely exploded there for awhile. I was playing volleyball once a week, getting together for happy hours with friends (including Margarita Mondays), riding my bike, planning canoe trips, watching one of my best friends get married, spending quality time with my family, and of course the oh-so-familiar "D" word. Dating. Lots and lots of dating. I'm still really busy. In fact this week I have gotten home after 9 every night. Sometimes I feel like I never STOP AND BREATHE.
But you know what? I missed you guys. And I'm back.
Anyone still with me or did you all hit 'unsubscribe' after the month long hiatus? And for those of you reading, what the hell have you all been up to?!!

To Blog Or Not To Blog?
That is the question.
How Shakespeare of me, right?
Anyway, I know I've been hiding lately. Not because I want to. More so, because I don't know what to do in regards to this particular blog. I don't want to delete it. Erasing what happened is not an option. The good times were really good times and I don't want to forget them.
But I know that from this point on if I write anything on here I will be holding something back. Something I don't want him to know. Things I don't want him to know I'm feeling. Because if he wants to know, he can ask me. Loving and caring about someone takes effort. It shouldn't be dished out for all to see.
This blog has been an outlet for me for over a year and I hate to lose my URL and header that I love, but what choice do I have? I want to tell you guys about what's going on in my life. I hate that I haven't been able to do that.
So what do you guys think I should do?
- Start a new blog. One that is completely anonymous. Make this blog private so only I can view the archives when I want to.
- Keep writing on this one, but don't reveal too much.
- Start a new blog and maybe write on this one once in awhile with updates.
- Stop blogging all together.
What a hassle all of this is.

What Kind Of Gone?
Is it the kind of gone where (s)he's at her mom's, coolin' down (s)he'll come around?
Or the kind that says you've had your chance and (s)he ain't comin' back?
Don't know when/if I'll be back, but I wanted to let you all know. Thanks to the few of you who connected with me, knowing something was up. I really appreciate it. This time, I just can't get by. I've done this to myself.
Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me.
Someday I'll learn.

Henri's Escape
Drumroll please... it's the Choose Your Own Blogventures unveiling! If you would like to start at the very beginning of the story please go here. Otherwise my section is posted below along with the link to the previous section of the story. Enjoy!
PREVIOUS ENTRY
Henri motioned towards the bus, "After you, Emma." She bounded up the steps, each motion blatantly showing her excitement.
"We're running away together!" Emma exclaimed to the driver, unable to contain herself. There was a hint of immaturity in her voice, making it obvious that this was a very last-minute decision. The driver quietly chuckled. He knew young love when he saw it. In fact, he had been there himself a time or two.
Henri boarded the bus right behind her. His hands were shaking and he grabbed the hand rail to steady himself. He knew in his heart he couldn't go through with it. She was, after all, a convicted felon. Not exactly someone you could bring home to Mom.
He watched as Emma walked down the center aisle of the bus, looking for two open seats. She was beautiful. He silently scolded himself for falling for her without really getting to know her. This wasn't the first time he had mistaken lust for love, and it probably wouldn't be the last.
The bus was crowded. Emma's back was still facing him. Realizing it was now or never, Henri slipped through the nearly closed doors and ran as fast as his legs would take him. He was so far away when he heard her cries, that they were barely audible. It felt surreal.
As he ran his mind replayed images of her, taunting him. He could hear her laughing, a laugh so intense it couldn't be mistaken for anyone else's. "The laugh of a crazy girl's more like it," he thought to himself.
He slowed his pace as he rounded the block, not really sure of his destination. Out of the corner of his eye he saw a crowd gathering across the street. He made his way over, wondering what the fuss was all about. Elbowing through didn't get him very far; he was still unable to see what was causing the commotion.
"Do you know what's going on?" Henri asked as he tapped the shoulder of the girl to his right. Her ponytail swung around so fast it nearly hit him in the eye.
"Oh, I'm sorry! You startled me!" The beautiful brunette was now facing him, "I think someone was hurt. I heard a man on the phone with 911." But Henri didn't hear her answer, she was becoming a blur right before his eyes. Everything suddenly went black. His head was pounding. He tried reaching back to find the source of the pain, and felt concrete.
He was coming to.
Emma's face slowly came into focus; the scowl plastered on it contradicting her laughter. "Tried to get away I see." The crowd he had imagined earlier was actually gathered around him. He was the source of the commotion, his escape plan had failed.
Looking towards his feet, he now understood how he had fallen. Smashed between the treads of his sneaker were the remnants of an orange Hostess cupcake. "Shit."
He knew that very soon he'd come face to face with Emma's collection of vintage but operational belt sanders and antique cheese graters.
THE END

One More Day
Doesn't it seem like this week is dragging?
Going to break out the bullet points today guys:
- Bought whole wheat poptarts last time I went grocery shopping (trying to be healthier and all). They're actually not too bad.
- Apparently I'm a bangable blogger? Can't decide if I should be flattered or offended. Twitterers tell me both. What do you guys think?
- Finally got a new cell phone. The T-mobile shadow. I pretty much am in love with it. And my ringtone? Popular from Wicked the musical. Does that make me egotistical? "Popular. I knooow about Popuuular." hehe
- Working on my knitting project I mentioned on Monday, I dropped a few stitches. Ended up having to unravel the whole thing. Talk about heartbreaking. Don't worry, I don't give up easily. Attempt #2 has begun.
- So not to throw everyone off tomorrow, I'm letting you know that I will be posting a piece of fiction. I joined the Choose Your Own Blogventure team and at 10 AM tomorrow everyone will be posting their part. Basically the story starts with NPW and you can follow it along by choosing what you want the main character to do at the end of each entry. Fun, right? Hope you guys enjoy it!

Playing Catch Up, Questions & Other Miscellany
Warning: Complete Randomonium to follow.
First: You guys rocked the music quiz yesterday! I am very impressed. However, how did no one guess Bob Marley's One Love? I am hoping it's because I put that song up last and not because I have no Marley fans as readers. That would be sad.
I posted a playlist of most of the songs below so have a listen! (Some of the newer songs weren't available and the version of "One Love" that I really like is on yesterday's post if you want to have a listen.)
Second: I was nominated for a few awards this year and have failed to pass them on - until now! The first one is a "You Make My Day" award. Thanks Jenni and Kate for nominating me - of course both of you newly engaged women always make my day, too! I want to hear more about the wedding planning!

I am passing this on to: Christa, Rachel, Blogging Barbie, Each, Elysa, Miriam and Kari because you guys always make my work day a little brighter.
The next one is the "E is for Excellent" award. Thanks B2G and Pessimistic Redhead for the honor! :)

I'm going to pass this on to a few blogs I've recently been exposed to that I think are highly entertaining: Whoorl, Jenn, Chelsea and Single + Cats.
Third: Remember how I told you guys about Peep Torture week? (I know you all secretly loved the peeps melting in the microwave.) Well, here is Day Two - Peep Burnout!
Last But Not Least: I don't know if anyone noticed, but back in the days of NaBloPoMo you guys asked me a bunch of questions. I answered a few and then sort of... forgot about the rest. Don't worry! I will posting all of the answers next week. And it's not too late - feel free to leave me any questions to answer in the comments.
Happy Hump Day!

Happy Blogiversary To Me!
Holy cow I've been blogging for ONE YEAR?!
I know it's late in the day, but I couldn't let it go without mention*.
And I didn't even realize it was the birthday of my blog until I saw Miriam's Gchat status this afternoon about the anniversary of Anna Nicole's death. And I thought to myself, "Wait! I remember blogging about that!" (And no I didn't link the post because really it's not a post worth reading, unless of course you're bored.)
So, I ended up CHECKING MY ARCHIVES TO MAKE SURE. Yeah, I'm a loser.
Now let's bring on the sap:This year of blogging has held a lot of meaning for me. I've met a lot of great friends, have developed a base of oh-so-fabulous freaders, and best of all, have learned a lot about myself. Thank you for sharing in this year with me. Here's to many more of getting to know one another! Who knows, ten years from now this could be a mommy blog! I guess you'll have to keep reading and find out. Love you guys! xoxo Michelle < /sap>
*And I wasn't planning on posting today either, how ironic.

Exposed.
I spent most of my life hiding behind an "image". A put-together disguise that hid all of my fears, emotions and insecurities.
When I was younger, it was the goody-two-shoes image. Perfect student. Perfect grade point average. I didn't do drugs, drink or stay out late. It was easy to hide behind mounds of homework, the computer screen, or a sketchpad.
In college, it was the overachiever image. Staying up all hours of the night finishing a graphic design project. Detail-oriented on the verge of obsessive compulsive. It was easy to hide behind my perfected portfolio, black foam core boards and an exacto knife.
In my early twenties, it was the go-getter image. Looking for a job in my field until it killed me. I couldn't wait to start my career and see what my future had in store. It was easy to hide behind the newspaper, my repeatedly redesigned resume, and monster.com.
Since I started blogging, I feel more exposed than ever before. I'm not hiding behind a glorified image for fear of dealing with real emotions. I have just begun the journey of self-discovery and it's thrilling. I may not put everything out there for the world to see, but blogging has allowed me to open up beyond the boundaries of the world wide web.
But what I do put out there, I'm glad you all are there listening reading.
So, blogging wars? Whaddya say, truce?

Playing Catch Up
Wendy, Pessimistic Redhead and July Bug have all tagged me recently for a random facts meme.
So here goes, 7 pretty irrelevant (but oh so intriguing) things about me:
- If I am really enjoying the song on the radio as I pull in my garage at night: I crank up the music full blast, shut the garage door and rock out in the driver's seat until it has ended. All while singing at the top of my lungs. I may have done this today to "Firecracker" by Josh Turner.
- I own a coupon organizer. It has alphabetical tags to sort coupons by brand name or store. And yes, I use it.
- I used to love origami, the art of paper folding. I was never any good at it. I should have known after many failed attempts as a kid to make paper snowflakes. I would try to cut an intricate design and would accidentally cut it in half.
- I won the school spelling bee in 8th grade and went on to the citywide competition. Was out in the first round on the word "balsam". I still hesitate when trying to spell it.
- I tried out for the cheerleading squad in the 4th grade. I'm not sure if I was purposely trying to humiliate myself or if I really thought I would make it. Because as you all know from my Never Have I Ever post I can't do a cartwheel to save my life.
- I can sign the entire alphabet. Lately I've had the desire to learn sign language. I think I might attempt it this year.
- I used to camp out in my sleeping bag on the floor of my room, the living room or the back porch as a kid. For some reason it always felt like I was getting away from reality. On vacation. The last time I was home I was eyeing the sleeping bags stored in my bedroom closet. Next time, I'm totally taking 'em.
Consider yourself tagged if you like!
*And a quick thank you for nominating me for the 20 Something Bloggers awards! There are links in the side bar if you'd like to see what they're all about and vote. Regardless if you vote or not, the 20 Something Bloggers site is something you should definitely check out. I've been a member since I first started blogging (basically since Lisa started it from the ground up) and have met some fantastic bloggers (and friends).

National DeLurking Week
Word on the street is it's National Delurking Week the second week in January every year. I already know I have wonderful readers out there (thanks for all of your hair suggestions yesterday by the way - you guys are awesome!), but for those of you who don't comment I'd like to get to know you too!
Everyone reading leave a comment on this post and say hi! Make sure to link your blog if you have one so that I can make a return visit over the weekend while I play blog catch-up. I promise to visit each and every one of you, that's how much I care :)
To make commenting easier, here is a question to answer:
Who is your favorite artist? It can be a fine artist, designer, photographer, architect, musician, anyone who is creative and inspires you. Link to some of their work if you can so I can see what they do. And if you can't think of anyone - just say hi! ;)
Here are my 2 favorite artists of all time (the pictures of their work is from each artist's website):
William Wegman
(fabulous photographer who usually photographs his Weimaraner dogs)

Dale Chihuly
(mainly does glass work, his Fiori/garden style pieces are my favorite)

A Shameless Plug
The lovely Lisa selected me for Featured Blogger of the Week on the Twenty Something Bloggers site! Thanks for the nomination! In case there are any new readers stopping by (hi!) and since 2007 is approaching its end (thank goodness) I decided to do a [sort of] year end review.
I started blogging back in February of this year and to be blunt - my posts sucked. I didn't really understand what blogging was all about or what people would actually want to read. They were a jumbled mess of ideas, stresses, and hour by hour accounts of my day.
I found the BlogHer site over the summer and began reading blogs by other twenty-somethings that were really interesting. I figured out that your posts have to have a point. One cohesive idea that brings it all together. The first few posts I wrote after that I was actually proud of (Going Up? and Spawn of Satan). From there ideas came easy. Not every day of course, sometimes I had bloggers' block, but for the most part I was catching on. I have always loved writing and I finally was beginning to feel my style breaking free.
Then my life took a nosedive in October. But the support I received from my blogging friends was AMAZING! I never expected anything like that in a million years. I was bombarded with emails, phone calls and care packages every day. A smile was back on my face after days of tears. It was the best feeling in the world.
I was finally able to move on after a night of pure craziness, that's the way it works right? And I moved into my new condo that same weekend.
Thrown back into the dating world, I decided to make the best of it. My first attempt was a let down. I never thought I'd have to tell someone "I'm just not that into you", but I suppose it's inevitable. Then there's FF, the guy who swept me off my feet so to speak. It's always the unattainable ones that make your heart flutter isn't it? He still has me by a few [very thin] strings, but I'm onto him and his Delete Radar capabilities.
Then there's GQ. The one that makes me feel 15 again. He's still in the picture too. We'll see where it all goes. Isn't my dating life so exciting? Ha. Trust me... "the grass is always greener." I'd love to be married like some of you, and have a guaranteed snuggle buddy to spoon with every night. If you only knew.
My last adventure was the best of all. I set foot on a plane for the very first time in my life! I flew cross country to California and met my fabulous IBFF (internet best friend forever) Sarah. We had some crazy times and I am so glad I took the trip. I needed to get away from it all and hell- I deserved it after all the crap I'd been through with The Ex!
Overall, 2007 was a rough year for me BUT I began this blog which led me to all of you, so it can't be all bad right? Let's stay friends, ok?
Here's to a better, more fabulous 2008! Meeting new bloggers, finding the man of my dreams and living happily ever after! What do you say?
p.s. New Year's Resolutions to come next week :)

The Wonders Of Google - Volume 2
Last month I wrote a post on how people get to my blog. We all want to know how people find us right? How else are you supposed to increase traffic if you have no idea how many readers you have to begin with? If you haven't already I suggest you sign up on Sitemeter and Google Analytics. Technorati is also a great site to track your favorite blogs and see who else has linked to your site.
Also, our 20-somethings blog ring is growing exponentially (due in part to Janet's article in the Washington Post!!) and I am so excited to see how much traffic I get from the site (Check out my profile. I love comments hint, hint)! It has been so nice getting to meet all of you - especially fellow Midwesterners!
Now on to the fun stuff:
well you want my money babe you want spit on you
Um, no? Thanks anyway. I really hope these are godawful song lyrics.
pumpkin cheesecake
Is heaven. No need to do a Google search people - go out and try it! Cheesecake Factory here you come :)
is funny how someone can break your heart
I wish it were funny. Sadly, it has been one of the most painful things I've ever experienced. Have you ever had to love someone that just don't feel the same? Not funny at all, my friend.
ginormous jugs 2
OK really... who keeps searching for this? Are you doing this to mess with my head?
wear glasses the rest of life
You could get contacts. Or laser eye surgery. Other than that I'm out of ideas. You're stuck with bad vision like the rest of us.
http://michelle-and-the-city.blogspot.com
Why are you searching for my URL? Sign up for my feed already!
dumped years ago & still hurting
This is not helping me people. Need positive vibes.
tortious cdp engagement ring blog
These shenanigans crack me up. Psycho stalker much? We've got your back CDP!
tights bus driver
Last I knew bus drivers didn't wear tights. Please send photo documentation. I can feel laughter coming on already.
tater tot casserole
I still get the most hits from searches due to this recipe (like seriously over 300). It's good - trust me!
hottie, blogspot
Why yes. You've found me. Now if you're a single guy and live in the vicinity of C-bus...
Isn't this fun? People search for the weirdest things I tell you.

The Wonders Of Google
Like any other blogger, I want to increase traffic to my site. Why? Well, frankly because then I know I'm not writing in vain. Speaking to a brick wall in other words. As much as I enjoy writing this blog, I hope others enjoy reading it.
To see if my blog is loved by you wonderful internets, I occasionally check Google Analytics or Sitemeter. The best part of that for me (besides peeking at the page views of course) is to see how all of you stumble across Michelle & the City. Most of you pop over from some of my fabulous blogging friends' pages (One Big Holiday, Clink, and Tina Vaziri to name a few). Quite a few have found my blog through our 20-somethings network. A small percentage of you have come from certain keyword searches on Google, and these stats are the most fun to look at. Some of them are pretty damn funny.
Other bloggers compose these lists on occasion, so I think I'm going to try to share some of mine with you guys once a month just for kicks. Whaddya say? *that's a rhetorical question - I'm going to do it anyway, so there
tatertot casserole
Apparently this is a popular one. Nearly 40 of you have searched for this and came to my blog. Hope you enjoyed the recipe - I know some of my readers did!
alright french fries walmart
I love french fries. Especially dipped in ranch. Wal-mart is a necessary evil in my life right now, but only for its prices. I guess if you want to buy their french fries, don't hope for anything more than just "alright".
as jensen ackles got a facebook account
Did he really? Why didn't you tell me sooner? You see, this HOT actor is on "my list*" and if I can get a hold of him through facebook than I'm one step closer, right? Does it count as randomly running into a celebrity if you e-mail them first?
*You know the list I'm referring to... don't you? Well, if I happen to get the opportunity to *ahem* have my way with any of the 5 celebrities listed in my sidebar I'm allowed without fear of any consequences. I suggest if you and your significant other don't already have a similar arrangement you best get on that! But rules are rules - there has to be about a one in a million chance that you'd ever really run into them. Otherwise its cheating folks. Plain and simple.
fun things to do at a preteen slumber party
I really hope you are either a.) a mother or b.) a preteen. Otherwise, you're just plain creepy.
he aint the leavin kind meaning
Well, as a Rascal Flatts fan I can tell you it's about God. And not being a very religious person, I still find this song to be amazing. Gives me chills every time.
keep hitting the snooze button solutions
I really wish I could help you with this, but I have the same problem buddy. The snooze button is the spawn of Satan. It's the plain and simple truth.
keep me warm inside you
Ew. Um, no thanks. Find yourself an apple pie. And if you don't get that reference you really need to watch American Pie.
what does kosher mean?
I asked the same question. Apparently coming to my site didn't help you. Sorry about that.
brad paisleys bus driver
Don't know him. But I can tell you how I feel about bus drivers.
ginormous jugs 2
Yes I have a set. What's it to you? Or is this a porn sequel? Hmmm...not sure if I want to know.
getting involved with the boss
I don't know your particular situation but it worked out well for me. But then again, my boss was a total hottie (well he still is of course)! If yours is, I say go for it! But don't come crying to me if you get fired!!
Do you enjoy finding out how people come to find your blog as much as I do?

Because Everyone Else Is Doing It
That's right. Today's the day for all of you lurkers to come out of hiding and comment! Don't worry I don't really think you're mofos. Because that's just wrong.
But I love blogging, reading blogs, commenting on blogs, the works! If you're not experiencing all of what blogging has to offer, you're missing out! And don't you want to be in with the in-crowd?
So will you pretty please show me some love? I always reciprocate. This goes for my loyal readers as well! (Hi! I heart you!) If you don't know what to say, how about starting with how you found my blog. And maybe your favorite color? Mine's pink if you couldn't tell already ;)

Just Another Nice Girl
What a way to start a Monday! Hardly any traffic, no honking bus driver, AND I come to find that Alynda, another nice blogger, nominated me for the Nice Matters Award. Isn't she nice? (Let's see how many times I can get the word 'nice' in by the end of this post, k? So far we're at five.)
Since she was nice enough to pass her nomination along, I thought I'd do the same and nominate a few bloggers that I think are nice and deserving of this prestigious badge on their webpage. Instead of taking the easy route and saying MY ENTIRE BLOGROLL (since you all are completely deserving, of course), I'm going to narrow it down to 3.
- Rachel AKA "Puremotif" - This girl has been a friend of mine (outside of the blogging world) since college and is one of the nicest people I've ever met. Not only did she talk to me when I worked up the nerve to approach her on our first day of college, she also has become one of my best friends and fellow "designer in crime". Love you Rach! BDFFs :)
- Libby AKA "Chasing Libby" - Not only does this girl share my passion for reading (chic lit of course), but she is super nice! She has taken our Blogging Book Club by the horns and got the ball rolling. Seriously though, she never fails to have an interesting blog posted when I show up for work in the morning, AND she always reciprocates comments of her blog visitors. Gotta love her.
- Molly AKA "These Little Moments" - One of the first blogs I started reading via BlogHer and loved her blog right away. Her posts were completely relateable to my life as a fellow twenty-something and knew I would become a frequent reader of her blog. So nice, and she visits the blogs of most commenters to her site as well - and there are many!
So that wraps up my nominations. And Alynda, does receiving this award mean that I have to be nice the rest of the year?! I kid, I kid.
This post has been brought to you by the word "nice" - 13 appearances.
And here are synonyms for the word nice just to prove that I do know some:
- charming
- becoming
- swell
- kind
- friendly
- pleasant
- cordial
Let's keep the 'nice' list going folks... Happy Monday!

A Community Of Fellow Bloggers Has Been Found - Thanks BlogHer!
I just this morning decided to join BlogHer after finding a link in one of Dooce's old posts.
What a great site! I was thrilled to find a ton of great blogs to read, especially those of fellow 20-somethings currently experiencing quarter life crises of their own. I really feel like I've just gotten my toes wet when it comes to the online community of bloggers.
How exciting!
