Generation After Generation

2007 marks a year of monumental birthdays on my mom's side of the family. I turned 25. My mom's sister will be 50 next month. My grandmother is 75 - today.

25-50-75. I find this sort of eerie. (haha Erie, get it?)

Over the weekend I made the trip home to attend my Grandmother's 75th birthday party at a local restaurant. Good times and good food were had by all. Surf & turf, crab legs, scallops, shrimp, you name it we had it. Yum. And we may have consumed a few glasses of wine... can you tell?

Yeah, so that's my brother Kyle. I've mentioned him on this site before, I think. He gave the toast pre-dinner, and I have to say how impressed I was with him. My brother can be a bit of a jokester if you can't surmise that from the photograph above, but he really gave the toast with class (and a bit of appropriate humor of course). He even had me tearing up a few times. He just may have a serious side after all.

We waddled our stuffed selves back to my grandmother's house after dinner for the traditional birthday cake and ice cream. Mmmmm. I definitely don't mind sticking with this tradition. (The place we usually get our birthday cakes from recently closed down. The owner wanted to spend more time with her kids. Well, we love her cakes so much that we tracked her down and had her make this one!)

Oh, and guess what? I got to meet 'the boyfriend'! (If you're not familiar with the story you can read about him HERE) He was really nice, but really really quiet. If he knew I posted this picture he would probably kill me. That's my mother by his side.

So here's to a wonderful woman who has been there for our family through thick and thin. Lost the love of her life, but remains a strong and independent person. We are lucky to have someone like you in our lives. Happy birthday, Grandma. We love you!

Aww, that is sweet and wonderful. I wish so much that I had grown up closer to my grandparents. That's definitely one of the things I want to fix if I have kiddos someday!

Glad you had fun, and am LOVING the wine-reddened cheeks pictures :)

That's great! Back in 2003, my hubby and his mother and her father celebrated their 30-60-90. It's cool when things line up like that. :)

I'm an only child with a very tight bond with my mom. She was 23 when she had me. So when I was nearly 23 we calculated on which day I would be half her age and she would be twice mine. That particular day we had a special day together. I love my mum. Let that be said once too. :)

I love the matchy birthdays. My mom's birthday is 3 days after mine - I turned 25 and she turned 52, I think she was more amused by it than I was.
