Living Out Our Fantasies

A few days of lounging around in your pjs will without a doubt lead to some movie watching. The bf joined in, convincing me that we need to continue along in the realm of fantasy since we've been watching those lately. Most recently was Neverending Story - which surprisingly I have never seen even though it was a "hit" during my childhood. All I have to say is - FABULOUS. I LOVED it. Does anybody know what the name is that Bastian calls out in the end (the name of his mother)? Clancy has always thought it was Mariah since he was little, but it was really hard to make out. And the Luck dragon's face has a slight resemblance to our cocker spaniel, Gracie. Too funny.

We also watched Jim Henson's movie The Dark Crystal. The puppets/costumes in this movie were the most unique I have ever seen. Some of them were definitely precursors to Fraggle Rock. The Chamberlain character's whining made me laugh out loud several times. It was just so annoying that it was funny. And how cute were Jen & Kira? Long live the Gelflings!

The best part for me was when Jen sees Kira's wings. "Wings? I don't have wings!" Her reply "Of course not, you're a boy!" Girl power :)

If you like the fantasy genre I highly recommend both of these movies for your watching enjoyment. And to be honest, I have never considered myself a fantasy movie-lover before so just watch them!

I still consider The Neverending Story to be in my top all time favorite movies. It's such a beautiful story. But, I must warn you... whatever happens.. NEVER WATCH ANY OF THE SEQUELS TO THIS MOVIE! NEVER!

I used to be SO SCARED of The Dark Crystal. And my bff had a lunch box of it. Too funny!

You should check out Mirrormask, directed by Dave McKean and written by Neil Gaiman. It is sort of envisioned as a completion of the Jim Henson stop motion/ puppet trilogy of Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal (ten some years post Jim Henson's death of course). It's really phenomenal. I also wanted to let you know that I responded to your comment on my blog, but the short answer is Ikea.
