Excuses, Excuses

Reasons why I couldn't respond to another text from the FF last night:

I was...

  • washing my hair
  • getting a brazilian
  • plucking my eyebrows
  • taking a bubble bath
  • talking to a guy who actually called me
  • watching a Project Runway marathon
  • gchatting
  • filing my nails
  • shaving
  • vacuuming
  • dusting every piece of furniture I own and all the crevices in between
Basically, I'll get back to you when I feel like it. Finally, the ball's in my court. Victory is sweet.

(So you guys don't think I'm a bitch - this guy has been pulling my strings for weeks. Calling when he feels like it. Usually texting. With nothing much to say. I don't know what you would do, but this girl refuses to be strung along. If you want to see me - call me. It's as simple as that.)

EDIT: So either he knows about my blog or he's psychic. Guess who called me on my lunch hour?! I don't understand men. At. all.

What mundane excuses have you used before?

Catching up with my Tivo. Giving myself a pedicure. Painting (no, really). Organizing my closet.

I use excuses when I feel like blowing someone off. And it's usually justified because they've been blowing me off.

Hell no to the pulling of the strings! Good for you! :0

Go Michelle! You show him who's boss. This is your game!

I guess guys text for a couple of reasons. One, they have nothing to say, but like making small talk to you and know it wouldn't work via voice (which, sometimes can be adorable). Or Two, they want to string you along for whatever reason.
Good for you, Michelle!

I definitely once told a guy I had to go to a volunteer orientation. And he asked what I was volunteering for. And I said abstinence only education.
Best way to get rid of a serial texter ever!

Good for you!! He doesn't deserve your call anyway.

wait, did you really get a brazilian?!

when they ask why I didnt respond I usually say
-because i didn't feel like it
-because i didn't feel like you needed a response
-because you seemed to just be fishing for attention

haha... I'm not very nice to guys when it comes to that delete radar/pulling my strings games.

-Packing or unpacking (I travel for work fairly often)
-Evening conference call

I'm always making up excuses but a lot of times I'll act like I didn't get it, just to make things easier.

Wow, good for you! You shouldn't let guys play you.

You go!

Washing my hair. Seriously.

I'm telling you... that radar isn't just about the deleting. It's also about the waning interest and the lack of power on their end. This guy's radar is obviously very finely tuned.

Tell him you were on a date.

I've definitely said I left my phone on vibrate and didn't check the message before. But seriously he shouldn't be toying you around like he is, I would say something. Or just not resort to texting back, you deserve a phone call :)

::wait... she's not answering my text. She probably has me figured out, so I have to call. Crap::

::She didn't answer, she has my stringing along figured out::

Tell him you were washing your hair. It's a classic, and he will know exactly where his place is without you even saying. :)

Keep washing your hair. I, for one, am totally over that guy.

don't answer! :)

I must admit that being a single mom comes with a bevy of grand excuses. Babysitter backed out, sick kids, school play, doing homework. It's glorious. I don't use my kids for much - but excuses for guys, I don't feel too bad about.

You're a rock star Michelle! Interesting too that he called after you posted. Maybe their is a blog-dar. Sorta like gay-dar and delete radar.

I love gchatting! :)

I often say "my phone was on silent" or "I was working late." Does it get any more mundane than that?

Lisa said...

I love how half your excuses involve the removal of body hair haha.

Also- nice work, let him wait!

Kudos to you for takin' charge!

When you don't call or text back, he was intrigued. So he called. My mom always told me, if you want a man to pursue you, ignore him.

You are totally too good for this guy. If you text him, it should be only to say "I'm just not that into you."

Because I didn't feel like talking to you.

Because I was having quality time alone and didn't want to be interrupted.

Because I'm waiting for you to grow up and figure out what you want to do. In the meantime, watch my a$$ shake on outta your life

dreamgirl said...

guys are nuts! they totally know when you are "over" them and THATS when they call. dont stress over him :)

oh good lord, please pretend there was subject-vern agreement in my previous comment.

You are fabulous!

I use my phone was on silent or I left it in my car. haha

Let me just say that I HATE HATE HATE people that only use texting as a form of communication. It drives me nut-so.

My favorite excuse of all time is in Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion when Mira Sorveno tells the guy at the bar that she can't talk to him anymore because she cut her foot earlier, and her shoe is filling up with blood. Hahahahaha.

Tell us more about the guy who's actually calling you!

if i used the excuse of washing my hair, most men in my life would know i was full of shit as i only wash my hair twice, maybe 3 times if i a lucky a week. but then again, that gets the point across that it is an excuse.

did you answer the phone???

Miriam said...

Men are weird. But go you! Don't respond to BS, when he wants to be a man who thinks with something other than his little man, then you can give him the time of day!

Argh. That pisses me off.

And how you can't call them on it, because you would be a bitchy possessive girl?
Boo to that.

I say next time he does that you text him really late one night, and just say something vague about busy with something really great. Make him wonder!

megabrooke said...

He's an asshat if he hasn't realized how great you are. If he wants a date, he needs to call, not text. I've written a whole post about when texting is appropriate and when it's not. He needs to wake up!

I always blame my phone. Granted, this only works if your phone is a little bit old and grungy... may not work with an iPhone or something new. But since I have missed text messages before due to my phone, I figure I can keep using that.

Lisa said...

And here's something I don't say very often: You go, girl!
(Did I pull it off?)

I always blame it on work. I'm too lazy to come up with something original.

yeah-yuh! you got the power!! i second the you go girl, above.

My phone is broken. Always a good one.

All valid excuses!

Kristie said...

Men! They are so infuriating! My excuse was usually...I never got that message/text/call, etc.

Steph said...

Best excuse: "talking to a guy who actually called me."

LOVED that!
