The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly - Vol. 2

The Good: As soon as I hit the highway for my morning commute "These Are My People" by Rodney Atkins came on the radio - (I was tuned in to my favorite country station of course WCOL 92.3). What is it about one of your favorite, upbeat songs coming on the radio while driving that turns you into a completely different person? I'm singing at the top of my lungs, spirits are high, not caring about the bumper to bumper traffic that awaits me. Such a mood enhancer. Music is my anti-drug.

I have so many new pumpkin foods to try thanks to everyone's responses to my last post - I'm so excited! Thank you :) Any additions are welcome, of course.

I found out by a stroke of luck yesterday that my dad and I both made my student loan payment last month. Yipee! Nothing is due for October. This in itself would be good news, but what makes it even better is that I'll have more money than planned for our trip to Nashville!

"Nashville?" you're asking (yes, I can read minds). Final plans are in the works for our trip at the end of the month. I am stoked. It was originally supposed to be a guys' trip and when Clancy asked me to join I was a little hesitant. Then I found out at least one other girlfriend is going so now I can officially be excited! A trip to two different whiskey distilleries are planned (did I mention this was originally a guy's trip?) but also one to the Country Music Hall of Fame! This is like a dream come true. I'm sure I'll post about this down the road in all it's glory, but now that I've brought it up I need your advice. Is there anything else we must see while in Nashville?

The Bad: I noticed a weird freckle-like rash on my forearm yesterday that was still there when I woke up this morning. Everyone keeps telling me it's nothing, but the hypochondriac in me is dying to rear its ugly head. I get hives sometimes (because I am allergic to everything), but it's nothing like that. Then when I was shaving I noticed a weird bump on my leg that sort of looked like a bug bite. Normally would've thought nothing of it, but these things in combination are making me worried. Do I sound like a crazy person yet? Riiight, I know what you all are thinking - I can read minds, remember. Take that girl to the loony bin!

The Ugly: Let me start off by telling you that "ugly" doesn't even begin to describe what I came home to yesterday. I set the mail on the counter, kicked off my shoes and as I was walking up the stairs to let the dogs out I crashed head on with the worst. smell. ever. You've probably already guessed it. The dog(s) had a few several accidents all over the carpet. I'm not talking about one little couldn't-hold-it puddle. I don't want to gross you out, so I won't go into detail - let's just say it was NASTY.

We don't cage them up while we're at work because they're usually pretty good about waiting until we get home to relieve themselves, but yesterday was an exception. (Clancy reminded me when he got home that it may have had something to do with the leftovers we had given them the night before, so then I felt guilty for getting upset with them.) I spent the next half hour cleaning the carpet in the spare room - I would not even wish this task on my worst enemy. I came pretty close to losing my lunch two different times and began to seriously question my future mothering capabilities. If I can't clean up this mess, how am I going to handle several dirty diapers a day and the properly-named "diaper explosions" I've heard so much about?

At least the good seemed to outweigh the bad this time - I LOVE when that happens!

I was whining this week about how we don't have a dog.

I now take it back, thank you, and my husband unknowingly is thanking you right now as well, I'm sure.

I was THISCLOSE to going to the ASPCA this weekend (hello, it is literally AROUND THE BLOCK!) and adopting a new furry friend! I have now thought twice.

Oh no...the poo just smells so bad. I'm so sorry you had to do that. You need to get hardwood floors....no scrubbing!

Ewwww. I feel for you, girl!

However, I love road trips!! It is rare that a group of people ever can manage them these days, it feels-- we just tried to figure out a girl's trip a few days ago, and we've already eliminated the entire next month as a possibility.

i am a total hypochondriac. i feel your pain. i'm sure the rash and bug bite are not connected.

one time i woke up with about 6 bug bites all over my back. i aws flipped out for days, but they went away eventually.

dogs are cute but gross. i wish dogs could use litter boxes!

i hate coming home to pet messes too but they're just so cute it's hard to be mad at them!

I think that's why god made pets cute, so you don't kick them out when they do nasty stuff.

Damn it, I want a dog. Yes, even after reading your post.

I'm dying to go to Nashville--I've heard it's a totally cool, hip town. You're lucky! Can't wait to hear about your trip.

we must be the #1 buyer of nature's miracle.

Music is also my anti-drug. This morning I jammed to Beyonce (I'm a B'day kick lately; don't hate); and it improved my mood ten-fold.

Oh, and re. the mothering thing. The kids will indeed shit. My kids definitely shat. (They still do, actually, just no longer in synthetic materials velcro-ed to their asses) but the beauty of it is, unlike dogs; the kids are totally easy to dunk in the tub (or hose off outside as the case may be) and everything can be put straight into the washer (unlike your carpet). As far I can remember neither of my children ever relieved themselves on the carpet. Well, except that one time, but that was just because I kept them locked in the spare room too long. KIDDING.

smooches, hope you're having a great week! (besides the dogg-ay poop-ay)

Nashville? NASHVILLE?! Oh, I so want to be you right now! So you like bluegrass at all? The International Bluegrass Music Association festival runs this whole week and into the weekend. I hear it's a good time... if nothing else, I know you've heard of Alison Krauss, and she should be running around that place somewhere. Also, if you like bluegrass, go to the Station Inn. Historic.

The Bluebird Cafe is kind of a big deal too. Lots of live music, mostly songwriters, some well known, some just starting out... they'll play stuff they've had recorded by others and new stuff.

Go see the Ryman Theater! Go see the Grand Ole Opry Live! And the Opry Museum!

Of course I've never even been NEAR Tennessee much less in Nashville, but I have friends who have been and they've been these places and I hear they're awesome. Again. I am jealous. HAVE FUN. And then have some extra fun for me.

Would it make you feel better knowing that my girl dog got so excited when she saw Andy yesterday morning (because he had been out of town) that she peed all. over. him. And then my boy dog got excited, jumped in the pee and it splashed on Andy's FACE? Because yah. Ew.

I love country music and Nashville too! In fact, I'm thinking about moving to Nashville someday.

I went to Nashville a few years ago and while we were there we took a cheesy/fabulous bus tour of the celebrities homes it was quite fun.

I wish someone would accidentally pay my student loans.
