My Newest Crush

My heart broke a little when I heard that Vince Vaughn, my celebrity crush, recently got engaged. I pouted, tweeted about it... then last night, I moved on.

Jason Segel
? Delicious.

You could say my crush started back a year ago when I was obsessively renting seasons of the television show How I Met Your Mother from Blockbuster Online. I'm surprised an error message didn't pop-up, "Dude, you have exceeded the rental limit for this series. Get a life." But my heart belonged to Vince.

Well, that all changed. Last night I saw I Love You, Man. A new movie starring Paul Rudd and Jason Segel. First of all, I laughed so hard my sides still hurt hours later and humor is definitely one of the pathways to my heart. You know, right after cheesecake and foot massages.

Secondly, he just seems like one of those celebrities that would be awesome in real life. Down-to-earth, laugh at your jokes, play Guitar Hero with you. Know what I mean?

And then there's the hair.

*sigh*

Let's Play Dress Up

Hey ya'll I need your help!

I have a date tonight, and though I've breezed thru quite a few lately, I cannot decide for the life of me what to wear! Maybe it's the new hair, or maybe it's because I went shopping over the long weekend and have TONS of new options ;)

Things to keep in mind:

  • Casual dinner date, think Max & Erma's/Olive Garden-esque
  • It might rain, but will be in the high 80s
  • I have red hair now! Will orange/pink clash?
  • When we first met, I was wearing a dress so I'm sort of hesitant to wear one again. Silly?
Vote in the comments!

Option #1
Floral halter top, khaki capris and bronze thong sandals

Option #2
Black polka dot top, jean skirt and black belted sandals

Option #3
Bright green halter dress and tan heeled sandals

Option #4
Orange tube top, pink and orange plaid walking shorts and brown flip flops

Option #5
Floral blouse, brown dress capris and brown heeled sandals

So, what should I wear?

Also, Jesse?! DeAnna picked Jesse on the final episode of the Bachelorette!
Jason, if you're reading this, call me! ;)

A Good Hair Day

There's just something about getting your hair just right that puts an extra bounce in your step. Know what I mean? I'm having one of those days today and after spending some quality time with the beau, I am in a fabulous mood.

"New" steam curlers from Clancy's mom this weekend. They're old school but seriously they work better than any curlers I've ever used before.

Rollers in...

Makes for a great hair day!

Off to work in style. And in a new print dress ;)

Oh and another thing that can make your day? Packages. Got Trish's book in the mail, can't wait to crack it open. Oh the perks of knowing the author! Thanks for the copy and congrats on it hitting shelves early!

I Am One Crafty Bitch

(Thanks to Each.)

I told Each last week that I was looking for something to hold all of my earrings, because it was sort of difficult to find a specific pair of earrings quickly when my jewelry box looked like this:

She described to me over gChat how her sister had made one out of cork board, fabric and some ribbon. We then declared "Michelle & Each Get Crafty" weekend: we would both tackle the project and post the end results today to share with all of you. We're nice like that.

Brown & teal to match my bedroom of course:

A close-up:

The beginnings of my next crafty project (finished product to be revealed next week if all goes well):

But don't worry, I'm not turning into an old woman - I had some fun this weekend too! Here's proof:

Fashion Forward

A little shopping over the weekend @ Maurices. I have to say it's quite possibly my new favorite store. Mostly bargains, but a little splurge. You're allowed at least one splurge while bargain shopping right? ;)

Coat: $39.99 (that was my splurge)
Skirt: $10.40
Sleeveless Top: $7.50
Shirt: $5.50

And of course, there was shoe shopping as well.

Grey Heels: $10.40
Brown Heels: $7.50

Total: $81.29 (and $39.99 of that was my splurge!)

You're looking at one satisfied shopper. Gotta love the red tag clearance events!

Sexify My Hair - Attempt #1

After all the advice from last Thursday's "Hair 911" post I decided to have some fun with my new hot rollers Saturday night (for my hott date!) and see what magic they could work. (Thanks Tia for the curler diagram - it really helped!)

The Results:

What do you think - hott or not? Perfect Myspace picture, no?

This is only my first attempt. Not as curly as I would have hoped, but definitely more volume. My next plan of attack is to get a heat curling lotion like this to help set the curls better. I also bought 12 jumbo rollers but maybe a variety of sizes would work better? Or getting another set of 12?

Attempt #2 will happen this coming weekend and a hair appointment will be scheduled for a week or two after that. I'll keep you updated!

EDIT:: After several pushy curious comments, I will post a dating update soon. Just trying not to jinx myself too much. I would never keep you guys in the dark unless it was for the best ;)

Hair 911

Help! OK guys, I need some hair help. And I know all of you have lovely locks (I'm looking right at YOU, Molly!) so you should be able to come to my rescue, right? I hope so!

You see, my entire life I've had to deal with poker-straight, thin hair. Most of the time it's been relatively lengthy (shoulder length or longer). The longer it is, the more it weighs down any body my hair has. My hair does not hold curl. I hate it. I will spend an hour curling my hair and two hours later it's flat again. No matter how much hairspray I use.

I don't know what to do to style it. I've had layers. They don't seem to make much of a difference. I've had a body wave perm - it didn't hold. I can't get rid of my part either. If I wear a ponytail I have to have a part when I pull it back or my hair will create one on its own. How do you train your hair not to do that?!

Here's the dilemma. I don't really like short hair on me, so I really don't want to cut it too much. What should I do to give it style? To create more body? How do I get it not to part on its own? Have any of you had success with hot rollers? Do you like the red or should I go back to brown? Maybe something darker? Should I get highlights/lowlights? Bangs? How do you control frizz and make your hair look shiny? I'm asking too many questions aren't I? ;)

Here's a few shots so you can see what I'm talking about:

This is me with brown hair and highlights.
Probably the shortest length I will go.

Some more recent shots so you can see the new red color.
Hey look - it's Kari!

Kate Walsh from Grey's Anatomy, she's my inspiration. My stylist says I look like her and our face shape is quite similar so I think her styles could look good on me. I like the color red her hair is too.

So, you guys will help me right? Any advice would be wonderful. I feel so uneducated in the hair department. I look at celebrities and their non-frizzy, super shiny hair and wish I had a stylist to come and visit me everyday!

The Contents Of My Purse

So this is my fantabulous purse I purchased recently. It's Nine West for those that are wondering:

And here is what I stuff inside it (only the essentials of course!):

  1. Every girl needs a rather large wallet. With a checkbook, credit cards galore, and tons of membership cards, punch cards, etc. how could you not? And I will not use anything other than a red felt tip pen to write in my check register. I'm weird like that.

  2. Change purse. Isn't it just so teeny and cute?

  3. Touchup makeup essentials. Powder and lip gloss. I think Julie had posed the question before about my favorite lip gloss. Well the one on the far right I LOVE. It is from Gap last holiday season - Vanilla Butterscotch. Yum. Is it bad when you want to eat your lip gloss?

  4. Hairbrush and hair tie. Because you just never know.

  5. Tide-To-Go pen. My friends have used this more than me. But it sure is a lifesaver. P.S. DO NOT attempt to use on ties. Not pretty.

  6. Every OCD/anal woman needs a coupon organizer. A-Z. With an extra pocket for receipts and one for stamps. Makes me happy.

  7. Nerd alert! According to Lisa I'm "cool", but here is proof of the contrary. Visine eye drops and an asthma inhaler. Who's hott* now?

  8. Because I like the act of procreating, just not the product right now.

  9. Other essentials - Nokia cell phone, building ID and my favorite gum ever. Never know when you need fresh breath. Why hello hott guy that just joined me on the elevator...

Ladies what are your purse essentials? And guys you can answer this about your wallet if you want. Anything interesting/bizarre/strange we would find if we peeked inside?

*Yes I like to spell hott with two t's. More meaning behind it spelled that way don't you think? Especially in reference to men. Wow that's one HOTTIE!See? Two t's.

A Smell Of A Different Kind

WOW! You guys are awesome - thank you so much for all of your responses yesterday. Seriously it made my day to read your comments this morning. I will work on getting around to everyone's blogs today and tomorrow. I promise I will visit!

And if you haven't yet "de-lurked" [here's looking at YOU boyfriend - I know you read my blog ;)], read yesterday's post and say hello! :)

Now on to today's post.

I need help readers. And it's sort of a girlie question, but any guys reading (if there even are any) are welcome to chime in. I am looking for a new perfume. Let me rephrase that. I am DESPERATE for a new perfume. Mine is nearing the last drops in the bottle and I can't decide what to get! I've worn Victoria's Secret "Heavenly" for years. I love it, but it's time for a change.

A few weekends ago I wandered into the perfume department at Macy's but my allergies got the best of me after 15 minutes or so of sampling. They all started to smell the same after awhile, too.

From what I can remember my two favorites were:

"Daisy" by Marc Jacobs

includes notes of wild strawberry, violet leaves, red grapefruit, gardenia, violet, jasmine, musk, vanilla and white woods.

and the Juicy Couture fragrance

features watermelon, mandarin, pink passionfruit, marigold, green apple, water hyacinth, crushed leaves, tuberose absolute, wild rose, princess lily, caramel crème brulée, vanilla, precious woods and patchouli.

So tell me - what do you wear? What are your favorites? What have you liked that you smelled on someone else? I know perfume smells different on everyone but I need some ideas. I'm not so trendy in this area folks...help a sista out :)

One thing to keep in mind: I know I didn't like Vera Wang's new perfume "Princess" - it smelled like chocolate, but not in a good way - at least not my taste.

A Semi-Material Girl

Ah, the wonders of being a woman. Some days when I'm getting ready in the morning I dread the time it takes to look all 'perty' (not that I would be caught dead at work looking how I do when I roll out of bed!).

I wouldn't consider myself a prissy girl - and trust me there are days when I don't "put my face on" - but I like taking the time to look nice. Now this is by no means a paid advertisement/post (so annoying!), but I thought I'd share some products I recently bought that I am OH. SO. IN. LOVE. WITH. for all my ladies out there in the blogging world.

Maybelline - Define a Lash Mascara
Best mascara ever! Hands down. My lashes have never looked so long! Warning: The brush is very flexible which is a great thing, but can lead to the splattering of mascara all over your nice, clean suit when trying to cram it back into the tube. You have been forewarned.

Cover Girl - Line Exact Eye Liner
I don't know about the rest of you, but it has always been a nightmare for me to put on eyeliner. In fact, in high school I gave up wearing it because it would frusterate the hell out of me. Other girls made it look so damn easy with their perfectly straight lines. Frankly, it made me question my feminism. Well, for any of you struggling with the same problem I present to you the miracle worker of eyeliners. Draw tiny dots across your lids and play connect-the-dots. It's a cinch! P.S. - Make sure you shake it first!

Loreal - Bare Naturale Powder Foundation
I have the blush of this product too. It hardly feels likes you're wearing makeup at all. I love it!

When we stayed over night at Clancy's parents' this past weekend, I realized how much makeup I have accumulated over the past few weeks (when I tried to stuff it all into my overnight bag because hello! don't want to look heinous in front of the boy's 'rents). I decided to broaden my horizons because I have worn the same products for like - well, forever, sticking with what was safe. I figured - why not live it up? Be bold.

So tell me, what are some of your favorites?
