Things I've Been Pondering

In no particular order.

  • Why do contestants on Deal or No Deal think "strength" and "determination" have anything to do with winning the game? Have they never seen the show before? Last night was a Star Wars themed episode and the woman had left a foreign country (Vietnam I think?) and made it to the U.S. as a child. I'm sure she's a very strong person and has been through a lot in her life, but really? It's a game of chance. Crossing your fingers would have the same effect.

  • If Reverend Wright supports Obama why is he continuing to preach his extremist views knowing they will be detrimental to the campaign? He has to realize what he's doing. Is this a backlash for being disinvited to speak on the day of Senator Obama’s presidential announcement?

  • Why would Miley Cyrus' parents even allow her to pose in a photo shoot topless in the first place? I understand that she is regretting her actions now after the negative attention the photos received from the media. But would she have had the same reaction if the press would have adored the photos? Regardless, she's 15 years old. Someone should have put a stop to the shoot as soon as the words "Miley, we're going to have you remove your top now" were uttered.

  • Why does Google reader take so long to show published posts?I know this has been a pet peeve of a lot of bloggers lately, but really I just don't understand it. I normally publish posts before work in the morning and sometimes the time stamp shows 3 or 4 in the afternoon! I'm not editing posts after I hit publish (which I know can delay it sometimes). What's the dilly yo?

  • Why do I worry about everything? Is it a woman thing? Am I alone? I feel like no matter how great my job/relationships/life/health is going, there's always something on my mind.

  • And lastly, how in the world can we justify SNOW flurries on April 29? For those of you who still think Al Gore is full of shit, ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION?!

I heard about Columbus getting some flurries and thought, "Michelle is going to yell!" I'm sorry. Snow in April is never good in any way. And Al Gore is an effing genius :)

the answer to numbers 1, 2, and 3:

the art of distraction by mainstream media.

there's no bigger problem in the world than miley cyrus' back photographed by one of the biggest photographers around. nope. because her wearing a bathing suit wouldn't be any more clothing than what is pictured. how many people died in Iraq today?

reverend wright is NOT obama. implying that his radical views have anything to do with obama implies that obama has no rationale to differentiate between what wright says and his own beliefs. art of distraction by the media by focusing on wright so much, and ignoring the fact that hillary also has ties to some pretty radical religious organizations.

deal or no deal: that's just obvious. we're comfortably numb by watching "reality" television.

sorry for going off but television and "news" today really, really angers me.

I totally agree about Al Gore - and I hate when people ignore it, it is one of my biggest pet peeves and something we're definitely going to pay for if we keep ignoring it. I'm sorry its snowing but May is around the corner and hopefully it'll stop asap!!

Oh Miley...she'll be the next Britney if Billy Ray doesn't watch it.

I heart Al G.

And the worrying? I find myself worrying unnecessarily when I have nothing better to do. I think it's human nature. I say do something fun to relax yourself - bubble bath, massage, pedicure, excercise, see a movie...

I definitely know more women who worry constantly than men. Though, men may just talk about it less. I've also found that it's those who are educated and informed who worry... ahhh, to be blissfully naive!

My favorite bumper sticker of all time is: "If you're not appauled, you're not paying attention."

The Miley Cyrus thing drive me crazy. And I can't believe they're trying to blame Annie Leibovitz. I mean, come ON. Admit you made a mistake and you regret it and move on.

I saw a man on the news from CORE (congress of racial equality) this morning voice the opinion that Rev. Wright WANTS Obama to lose, because that will perpetuate his preachings that the US is still oppressing African Americans. It's a rather extreme opinion, but it came from an African American man, and while it is far fetched, Rev. Wright does like to preach about the vicimtization of black America...Electing a black president would make that his point a little less valid...I hope that's not what he's doing, because that would be downright sad.

Anonymous said...

Reverend Wright is essentially effing over the Obama camp...and you know why? He keeps running his mouth because he has a damned book coming out in a couple months. I mean...normal pastors would be caring and stay the eff out of the way when it came to running their mouths on radical crap...but this guy? He's promoting himself and doesn't give a rats butt about Obama and his campaign.

Sad. But true.

You guys have to sit through Deal or no Deal in the States too? Poor sods.

Re: worrying, don't worry about it Michelle (see what I did there?) we all do it.

the infertile turtle said...

Maybe Wright's secretly a McCainiac? Wouldn't that be a fun twist...

Oy, flurries at the end of April? Yikes. Worst I can recall is 4 feet of snow on 1 April in Boston...

Hang in there! Better to have *something* on your mind than nothing at all, but remember to appreciate all the good things you've got going on. Like new hot rollers. :)

Well, your post is showing up this morning... but I know what you mean!

I worry too. Over-worry. All of the time.

I worry too much about things too. It's not just you :) I over-analyze things to death and beat myself up over things I should have known better about.

1) I heart Deal or No Deal. I know that doesn't answer the question but...I'm not as omniscient as I'd like to be.

2) I don't support Rev Wright's beliefs by any means but he has the right to say what he wants. I bet TONS of people who support Obama has extremist views that would reflect poorly on him if they were in the public eye. It's an unfortunate consequence that the media views people in light of who they associate with. But in theory it shouldn't do anything to Obama's campaign.

3) I read somewhere that Miley's parents left the photo shoot before she was asked to take off the flesh-colored tank she was wearing. Dunno if that's true or not. I don't see anything wrong with the picture though.

That's enough commenting for me!

2. I agree completely. I think it's high time we stop focusing on things that are not issues in this election. Lets focus on the task at hand, getting this country turned around.

3. Seriously? Easy to regret it now when everyone clearly hates and is upset with what you did.

5. Yes, it is a woman thing.

You better fuckin keep those snow flurries in the Ohio valley. Do not, repeat DO NOT send them over here!

As to your Google Reader woes. Its not Reader's fault, its Blogger's!!

Google has been neglecting Blogger.

I was just talking to a friend about how ridiculous Deal or No Deal is. The contestants act like they have some type of strategy. The strategy is pick a case and pray. Drives me NUTSO!

The cold weather here in Chicago is completely nutso but the daily commute isn’t that bad because people are probably in hibernation.

It’s a girl thing - I think until I turn blue in the face and then purple. I wont stop over analyzing stuff until I pass out, I swear!

kat said...

I worry too. All the time actually, so much so that it's starting to piss myself off.

As for the Google Reader thingy, it's really annoying.

Really? Snow? Homigod. I'm so sorry.

Yes! Yes! Michelle on the Rev Wright thing. Everyone and their momma were screaming the media was making a huge deal out of it. I hope they now see why and clearly he's the one that insists on prolonging it. The man and I'm not sorry to say is a complete idiot.
He's using God for his own private agenda, THAT is why I despise him so.

And I for one never thought Al Gore was full of poop.

Why is Miley Cyrus a big deal? The kid can't act (my son tells me) and definitely can't sing, what is her appeal?????

Miley is so annoying! I just wrote about that today haha.

I've wondered the same thing about Deal or No Deal contestants. Google Reader is annoying pretty much everyone these days. I don't think you're alone worrying about something. It might be a girl thing. I'm not sure, but I do it too.

Elise said...

Wait, about Al Gore - what? Did he predict snow or something?

;)

Nilsa S. said...

Amen to the Miley standpoint. Another blogger I read seemed to have no problem with it. I loudly disagreed.

Re. Reverend Wright. It's a fine line between continuing to push an agenda you've been pushing for years (and been trying to gain the spotlight while doing so) and "supporting" a politician. I'm not sure where Wright turns into Wrong. :-)

Snow in late April SUCKS. We had about an hour of HEAVY snow here, though no accumulation. WTF?!

Heading out at lunch to go shopping. Bet you know why!

I am a friggin' WORRIER by nature. Another one of my girlfriends has this problem too. It's so annoying. I wish I could be carefee, laid-back, and go with the flow. But it's just not me. Damn, sometimes being a woman BITES!

Joe White said...

Deal or No Deal is the worst show ever - and your complaint is the exact reason why. Courage has nothing to do with it.

Al Gore? Has no idea what he is talking about. How would Global Warming cause snow in April, exactly? It's called weather. If you take a weekend forecast with a grain of salt, and call a ten-day forecast unreliable, how can you possibly trust a ten year forecast? Or a hundred?! I'm open to discuss it, but as far as I can tell, the climate change craze is a bunch of bullshit.

I worry constantly. Little things, big things, you name it - I worry. But I internalize it so much though that most people who know me would say that I am totally carefree. And then I worry about the damage of internalizing it...

Tonya said...

I worry too. and when I don't really have anything to worry about I come up with something because surely I must have something I need to worry about.

Chris said...

Gah! I love that last line! I seriously feel the same way... HELLO... SOMETHING'S NOT RIGHT!

Katelin said...

To answer the snow question...I remember 3 years ago the day before my birthday in Ohio it snowed! I was baffled. But then I woke up on my birthday and it was sunny and warm and ridiculous. Hello global warming, how ya doing?

i love everything about this post. oooo except that i decided to read it instead of starting on work. my wonder "why am i constantly worrying about work yet always procrastinating"

Its definitely a woman thing...I worry alll. the. time.

And google reader is going DOWN. It seriously puts up my posts 6 hours after i post them. Grr.

I'm quite disturbed by Miley's pictures. She's 15. Wrong.

Seriously, what is going on with Google Reader? I published in the 8 am hour today and I'm yet to see it come through. stupid reader. No wonder I have no comments yet.

I can't stand Deal or No Deal, either. The whole thing is so stupid! I don't understand why it's a worldwide phenomenon!

the greader is annoying - it JUST exploded with posts..

I pretty much agree with you on all these points, so I'm just going to say: word.

I agree...Google Reader needs to get quicker at updating! It takes ALL DAAAAAY.

Reverend Wright needs to just keep his mouth shut because he's really doing damage to Obama.

Did you see Obama's response today? He is ANGRY. You can read the entire transcript of his response

Snow in April is cruel. Al Gore is a genuis. And kinda hot in a weird way during the 90's.

I love this post because I think some of the stuff are things people definitely need to hear. And seriously, I'm always worrying about something too! Guess that's why I blog.

Vanessa said...

I know so many bloggers who had snow today. Its crazy and if people don't start paying attention it will be too late for all of us! Hello? Snow in most of the country in almost May?

Rachel H. said...

That is SO terrible that you got Snow Flurries tonight...It's cold here for almost May, but no snow! And I worry about everything too, I think that it's definitely a woman thing.

I completely understand your pain. If this weather doesn't straighten up soon..I'm moving to Hawaii. Want to come? :)

Woah we don't have any snow over here in the Burgh...well we could...I can't see a window from my cave...I mean desk....

Puh-lease do NOT get me started on that idiot Rev. Wright.
